It is 1:30am...
And I just got back from seeing the first possible showing of Superman Returns. I have three words for this movie.
Go. See. It.
The visuals of the movie are amazing, simply stunning. The flying effects, the powers. All perfect, best I've ever seen, however they arent over used
The acting was supurb, the roles were filled perfectly. Brandon Routh brings an air to the roll that honors Chris Reeves yet doesn't copy him, a thought I'm sure has been on everyone's mind since they've heard about the movie. His characterization is humble and unasuming, a perfect Clark Kent.
Lois is Lois, what can I say. Feisty, foreward, alluring. Even though she's a mom, she's still Lois Lane, Ace Reporter.
Lex Luthor is perhaps the most callous human being ever known. Again, the portrayl is perfectly given by Kevin spacey.
I want to say more but I don't want to give away anything. This movie made me feel like a 5 year old again. As SOON as the first few notes of the classic Superman theme hit my ears, and the text did that 3D zoom like it did in the very first superman movie, my heart swelled, it was amazing!
One last thing.
Looking up Superman Returns on Wikipedia, I came across Roger Eberts "opion" about Superman. I will list it, only to show that critics are critics and very rarely in my experiance do they ever match up with the public as a whole.
Everyone in that theatre I was in, even though it wasn't sold out, Loved the movie. Loved it. People have been amazed just by the treats and teasers. This is what an "offical" critic had to say about Superman Returns
Quote:
Roger Ebert's reaction to the movie was very negative, saying, "This is a glum, lackluster movie in which even the big effects sequences seem dutiful instead of exhilarating."
I'm no critic, I'm giving you my honest opinion. I honestly don't know why he gave such an opinion and frankly don't care. I never liked critics, they always seem to have their heads up their asses and pan movie that have been favorites of not just me, but have showed so in the box office.
Make your own choice folks, but I say again what I said at the begining
Go See It
Recapture that little bit of your childhood, that wide eyed wonder of a man in blue tights and red cape doing things no mere mortal could.
And Love Every Minute Of It.
