A couple of days ago, I sign on and I am told by a close friend of mine that Gary Gygax is dead.
Why this is a blow to me is because he was one of the people, if not THE person to invent a little thing we call Dungeons and Dragons. I've played both AD&D and D&D 3rd Ed and I love table top gaming. Granted players can be petty, dice is thrown, etc. But Gary gave us a chance to get together with our friends and delve into a mythological world of adventure and danger without going out and beating each other senseless with sticks (not that thats not FUN but thats LARPing and a totally different bag)
I agree with Peter (Byin's player) in saying that if it wasn't for him, there would probably be no DDT, in-so-much that if his success with D&D didn't bring roleplaying and RPGs into the mainstream, we probably wouldn't have thought of actually doing a GAME like DDT and thusly it would languish as merely fanfiction.
So, God bless you Gary Gygax. People may have though you created the Devil's game, but I'm not one of them
It was *rolls some dice* ... a pleasure.... to get to know your work.
And thanks to Penny Arcade for the graphic.
As RPers its only proper we give a moment of silence for The Godfather of RPGs
