Topic review - HOOOLY SHIT! 10th Anniversary!

10 years, eh? My only exposure to Digimon at that point was whenever I went to someplace that had cable like, let's say, a hotel or a relative/friends place. There were those episodes (and the movie) that saw release on VHS, but otherwise I saw very little of each series. That being said, I did try to apply Digimon elements like Digivolution to my Megaman X fan fiction back in 2001, season with teenage wangst, and now you know my secret shame. Add in my time with this board from 2002-2007, and that's my experience with Digimon.

Sorry if I'm rambling, Ben's just really tired. So much so, Ben is starting to talk about himself in the third-person and it's starting to scare him.

Tokomon was the very thing that tormented the Lost Temple of Ishida. The very first FanSite I really became a SEVERE Fan of. I mean, I LOVED Goth TK and his ANGST. He DESPISED the BatPig.... who, in turn... had an... "affection"... for Tai's doo.... du? HIS HAIR. THAT MASS OF BROWN HAIR. XD;

LToI was also where I learned the term "Kug" and used it frequently when I first met Cam. >_>; *snicker*

It also inspired the idea for the Temple of Minamoto... my first Digimon Fan Site. (I can't say first Fan Site because I was way into Sailor Moon First. >P XD) ....Of course, I couldn't use the characters from LToI, but I could use the concept. And then after 50 times, the Lost Temple of Ishida... was actually Lost. Damn you Free Servers.... Damn you to hell. *shakefist* :T_T

I actually liked the first season, despite it being Dubbed when I first saw it. I didn't really know much about "Japanese being better" back then, but the Internet showed me there was so much of my beloved Digimon that I wasn't seeing here in North America... I watched most of Zero Two before really getting into this whole thing with "Subs" and even "Raws". I watched Zero Two on TV and when I lost track of it on the TV, I went online and found I liked the Japanese Version better... though I still missed half the eps...

Now... Tamers? I hated Tamers... I guess because I watched some of the eps online and then saw the VAST difference when I found it on TV months later. "How could they do this shit?" ...that and the lack of understanding of most Japanese language at the time and basing all my knowledge on the FanSubs (which can and have been WAY the hell off base) was to blame. Yes, the story was kinda cool, but I guess it seemed like, overall, the cast was way too young to go through all of this. True, it's an Anime. It's also Fantasy. And in DU, we have how many more kids than we do in DDT? But when you think about the premise, having an entire Guard Team of 8 year olds would get us all murdered... and may well have killed the game before it really got going.

Savers...

Oooooh~ Savers~....

Oh God, there was so much Brain Invasion for that season. Cam agreed back then, and from what Graham had seen of it at the time, he did too. I swear they came to DDT and went, "Okay, well this is cool. What can we use from this?" XD

Well, we can dream, can't we... I mean, I always joked that it was kind of strange they had a character named Yoshino... IN DIGIMON... AFTER our game'd been running for how long. >_> *snicker*

And think about it. Cam was the one who started the idea of Tamers fighting WITH the Digimon rather than; as he said; standing on the sidelines or being insurance for the villains. That was the beginning BASIS for DDT. It made more sense... and that's part of why I gave the game a shot when I wasn't sure I'd really be into a Digimon RPG game.

Cam also caught me soon after ExciteChat's VirtualPlaces was dying. Severely. VoodooChat (which is still around, amazingly... but still PC Only. ;_; ) took its place as a free, graphical chat community when Excite was bought out and made into a pay service. the Sailor Moon RPG I was once a player of and then given the role of GM of used to meet once a week on VP... we tried VD (shaddap!) but it didn't work as well as it does now... and the large group of players we had eventually got lost.

I tried to restart the SM RPG as a Forum-based RPG when I saw how well it worked for DDT, but because it wasn't a set night, some of the Players couldn't guarantee they could post often enough nor remember. Some weren't interested... and some couldn't be contacted. In the end it was me and the original GM, who tried to play, but... without more than about 5 of us, the game couldn't run.

Then... as some of you may remember... EZBoard got Hacked.

DDT was incredibly lucky to have retained 90% of its posts... D-Zero, Shadow of the Moon, and Digital Nexus were not so lucky... Nothing remains and EZBoard gave up on trying to restore its Database... Those boards are now gone forever.

DDT Survived.

Which could have been some random fated hint about its future.

Not long after that, however, Ads started appearing and eventually became too intrusive to play.

Then Forumer.

Then SailorShadow.Com.

...and then to here.

Ex: >_> Hey, how'd this get to a History Lesson.

Fuck if I know. X_X; It kinda happened.

Suki: I dunno, it kinda flowed well. It wasn't this sudden jump of topic.

Ex: Well no, I can't argue that, but we went from memories of Digimon the TV series into DDT's Back Story.

Suki: They kinda fit.

She's kinda right. Unlike AnubisDragon, however, I didn't create an OC for Digimon until the end of Frontier. That's where Shurensuki actually came from. ^_^; My OC for Frontier.

Suki: And look where it led in IM.

That's another thread already posted. XD; BUT YES. As for Savers... I never got to finish watching that. ;_; I lost the internet for so long... the series was over and hard as hell to find anything by the time I got back. But that series... I felt no need to create an OC for... I looked at DDT and went, "THERE THEY ARE!" >_>; *SHOT!* OW! Why do you guys keep doing that. ;_;

Shugo: >_> Because we can. And because you deserve most of them.

I didn't even do anything this time. ;_;

Shugo: >_> It's for what you're gonna do.

Not fair at all. D:

*BANG!*

Owwww. D:~

XD

I have my moments from every series, really. The TaixYamato fights that so made Digimon the source for yaoi fandom still make me laugh, but I gotta say the establishing of these tiny creatures able to turn into all sorts of crap and have no sort of resemblance got me. Patamon is my favorite Digimon for this very reason. Blob. Cute blob. Batpig. ANGEL. BADASS ANGEL. BADASS ARMORED ANGEL.

That and come on. We ALL had nightmares about Tokomon's teeth.

02's concept of an evil Digidestined drew me in immediately. Between him, TK, and Kari the development was very good. I especially like near the end when the new kids were so against the idea of killing Digimon, whereas the vets knew it had to be done. It really approached the idea that sometimes you have to perform the questionable to do good.

Tamers.. oh Tamers rocked. It really showed the psychological trauma that these kids went through. Juri lost her will to live, Takato was willing to kill for revenge, Ruki used Digimon so as not to face her own personal problems, it was incredibly grown up for a kid's show. It also showed how good a dub can be, as the dub didn't shy away from the concepts of death and vengeance and good ol' fashioned mental breakdown.

Frontier I know gets bashed, but I liked the concept. I just don't think it was applied all that well. It really let you see how helpless these kids are without any sort of Digital World protection... at the same time it can show you how power mad these kids can get. XD Also, Kouji's du-rag for the win.

Savers is one of my favorite series hands down. It really changed up the formula and I liked how the humans actually tried to friggin' help rather than stay on the sidelines or be insurance policies for the villains. The characters also being older made shipping and fanboying/girling less wrong. XD The main kids also were bundles of psychological problems. Masaru had no father figure most of his young life and turned to violence, Tohma's rich family was manipulative as hell, not to mention racist, Yoshino came from a big family full of success stories and thus had a severe inferiority complex (she's the one I most related with), and Ikuto was torn between his allegiances to the Digital World and his roots in the Human World. These kids had full on reason to angst, which made it great when circumstances forced them to not fill up the show with it.

I could go into more, but this seems like a good post. ^^

i remember being a pokemon fan when Digimon first came out in middle school. So at first i watched about half of an episode, and sorta foolishly wrote it off as a pokemon rip off.

Only after about a year, when pokemon bored me did the digi series really start to draw me in. Ive sorta been a huge fan ever since.

booo pokemon >_>.

Byin: Didnt you used to own like...5 pikachu tamogotchis?

*dons my pair of rose-tinted glasses*

For myself, I'd have to say Tamers' premise was a big positive for me. Although, that could just be because a part of me wished that I, too, could be an ascended fanboy (hurrah TVTropes!). ^_^

Another thing I enjoyed was the lovecraftian references in Tamers. The D-Reaper was totally an elder god. Not to mention Yuggoth, Shaggai (Juggernaut), Hypnos and Miskatonic University

Tamers also inspired me to draw my first original digimon and tamer character. Without me wanting to do more with that, I wouldn't have been browsing random digimon rpgs on the internet and I wouldn't have found DDT.

The Bishie.

Tamers failed for not really having one that anyone but a Female Pedobear would be interested in. >_>

But Savers brought back the Bishie Factor.

X3 *grin*

X_X;; I was wondering about the upsurge of pics..

On the 1st of this month, the Digimon anime had it's 10th Anniversary. Huh, maybe that's why I was able to get Digimon Adventure so easily..

But anyway, yes. The tenth Anniversary of the first anime series... anyone have thoughts? I think it'd be cool if we all shared our favorite memories of the anime series. I mean, without them, DDT nor DU would exist.
